Photo Phriday 29 – Caught!

Friday, June 5th, 2009

This week’s photo is coming later in the day than I’d like, but it’s up. My schedule’s been pretty hectic lately with a convention, nerd camp, and personal bits. As a result the blog’s been quiet. That changes this weekend when I get some things together.

Ninja’s been caught. Truth is, embarrassed as I am to admit it, he got away. He’s a crafty one, that Ninja.

Re: Pondering Subliminal Influence

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Here’s a truth about me. I can be subliminally coerced into saying almost anything. I’ve always been a sort of social chameleon, blending in with the background until I have time to start adapting bits of my personality to fit with the people I’m around. It’s typically a slow process, but I’ll quickly and subconsciously adopt frequently repeated words, phrases, and even inside jokes I don’t get. Today’s comic illustrates something I’d absolutely fall for.

To that effect if a person I’m around often purposefully started saying something with the intention of getting me to say it regularly they would not be disappointed. I often wonder if people have done that already, and kind of hope they haven’t. It would be all too easy.

This said, I think I’ve been pretty background blendy for a good few years now. My old group of friends are so far away I don’t spend time with them often enough to blend in with how they’ve changed over the years. When I do spend time with them, despite having known them for a long time, and in one case over 20 years, I feel a bit out of the loop. My New Crew ™ mainly comprised of local-ish webcomics folk also live far away. The effect is that I’m not around them often enough to get beyond the beginning stages of the blending in process. Despite knowing these folks for a couple years now I still feel like I’m meeting them for the first time sometimes and retreat to the background.

Regardless, I always enjoy spending time with any variety of my peeps, regardless of my tendency to feel apart from the group. Just so long as they know that the best trick to play on me is to spend a lot of time with me and fake a catchphrase or physical habit. I WILL pick up on it, and mimic it, and become a victim of subliminal influence.

Milk Toofs

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Part of having friends with great taste in awesome things is that links like this are shared with me.

My Milk Toof is one of those things that is beyond cute. I’m thinking the toofs and some of the props are handmade, which is very much up our alley here. Go check it out and die from sweetness.

Also, Photo Phriday will be late today, but it WILL be up today. I had a case of the “I need sleep now”s and must obey the command issued by the back of my eyelids.

Ninja’s pretty good at what he does. His ninja skills rank pretty high, and he’s quite the fighter. Never let it be said, however, that he doesn’t have a softer side for softer things.

The hat’s part of a project that Amu is working on for her doll hobby. It was originally made for a Puki, but as it turns out Puki heads and Amu’s World character heads are practically identical in size. Sometimes we borrow the Puki stuff for the comic. But if the hats fit… Yeah.

Re: The Plan At Work

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I have to admit that I’m slightly jealous of Kaizoku. In today’s comic he has his plan in motion, approaching his goal swimmingly. I could learn a lesson from this crocheted panda.

My plans tend to go as follows:
STEP 1: Formulate AWESOME IDEA
STEP 2: Imagine how AWESOME it would be to HAPPEN
STEP 3: Realize I’d need to do A LOT OF WORK
STEP 4: Remember the idea as something I’ll GET TO SOMETIME

That said, I’ve got some IDEAS and PLANS for the comic that I hope to get done. There’s going to be a special one-shot spinoff thing I want to put together for dedicated readers and by the end of the year I hope to have some stuff for sale.

Also, I want to welcome anyone coming in from Johnny Wander. It seems their link to us from back in January is giving us quite the boost in traffic. I’m a huge fan of JW. If you’re visiting from Johnny Wander via the guest comic from Questionable Content, HOWDY! Thanks for letting your curiosity lead you this way. I’m a big QC fan also.

If anyone checking us out for the first time likes what they see please keep coming back. New comics every Wednesday and a Photo every Friday. Sometime this summer I hope to speed things up and have some more regularly scheduled updates a bit more frequently.

Thanks again for reading!

Photo Phriday 31 – High Five

Friday, June 19th, 2009

The bunny peeps get it wrong a lot. When they DO manage to get it right, however rare that is, they treat themselves to some High Fives. They deserve it.

As July creeps up on us I wanted to keep you guys informed of what we’re going to be up to. July 17-19 is OTAKON, and we’ll be there in the Artist’s Alley. If you’re attending the con be sure to pop by and check us out. We’d love to hear from readers in person.

Also, July 16 is Super Art Fight 4 at the Ottobar. For Baltimore locals, GO! For people who are not local but are going to be coming into Baltimore early for Otakon, GO! It’s a fun time and you can get to meet the creators of some great webcomics such as Erfworld, Art Fight High School, The System, Sudden Valley, and lots more. Be sure to check it out if you can.
